Waitomo

Days 2-3! After our awesome island day and wine filled night, we went back to Auckland to pick up our Travellers Autobarn campervan. We stopped for some real strawberry ice cream and headed south to Waitomo to visit the glow worm caves.

Waitomo is a short and easy drive from Auckland. We arrived in the afternoon and after checking in at the Top 10 we went in search of a bush walk before making our first caravan park bbq dinner and getting ready for our first night in the van (which was actually very comfortable to sleep in).

In the morning we did a double cave tour of the Glowworm Cave & Ruakuri Cave, did some souvenir shopping and started our way to Rotorua, stopping at the Otorohanga Kiwi House.

Waitomo was a great place to start the trip, the drive was easy and ideal to get used to the van and a nice spot, but it is definitely a single day stop. On to our next stop: Rotorua, one of our favourites of this trip!
